I Didn't Start The Fire - Part Two

Today I decided to go on a little drive and show you how close the fire was to my house.  Before we get started tho, I had a question from my good friend Joey, who  asked how the fire got started.

Apparently a guy (age unknown) was driving his truck home, and it started overheating.  So being the smart soul that he was, instead of pulling into his driveway, he pulled onto the DRY, DEAD GRASS at the side of their house.  Yeah, because that's about as smart as say, lighting a firework in the DRY, DEAD GRASS.  The grass caught on fire, totaled his truck, and his house, and 3 other homes right along with it.

I hadn't realized until today, how close the fire really was.  For all of you that gave me hell about not evacuating, ummmm, it was close.  OK?  I admit it.

I did a video

Disclaimer.  I blather on about useless stuff.  Don't mind my talking.  I apologize in advance for the shakiness of the video.  I was driving and recording at the same time.  You will be amazed at how close this fire came to some of these homes.  Incredible.

Again, sorry about how hard my driving/movie making skills are.  I'm sure you are all running for the medications right now.

Stay tuned for Part Three.  It will be all about the happenings in the backyard, that fateful night.

  1. So my being worried about you was well founded. Maybe next time you will listen to everyone. There, you just got your scolding for not evacuating. That was too close.

  4. That is very scary! I remember when I was 10 there was a fire in the gully right next to our house. My mom was 9 months pregnant and we all stood in horror looking out the back kitchen window as the fire was raging up the hill toward us (started by a kid and some fireworks). We were praying and crying and freaking out. Suddenly the wind direction changed and the fire started burning down the hill instead, thank heaven. Then the fire fighters arrived and were able to get it under control. But guess who had a baby the next morning? It smouldered for several days afterward.

  11. That looks like it was way too close for comfort in such dry conditions. I'm happy that you guys were spared. Did they do anything to the nimrod who started it?
